Our Mission
The Northern Lights Foundation operates under our mission to provide financial assistance to local families with a child facing a life-threatening illness. Our purpose is to provide local children (up to the age of 18) facing a life-threatening illness with an unrestricted grant their family can use however they need during a very challenging emotional and financial time.
As there are many requests for grants, we work to assist as many families as possible who fall under the following qualifying conditions:
- At the time of referral, the disease or medical condition has become life-threatening
- Application must be submitted before 18th birthday
- The family lives within 100 miles of Duluth or within the immediate Twin Cities, Minnesota, communities
- Local grants are issued on a case-by-case basis to eligible families based on the medical facility availability of the child within a 100-mile radius of one of our chapters. All applications are subject to exceptions.
